Didier Drogba has expressed his belief that Thierry Henry was unjustly overlooked for the Ballon d’Or during his illustrious career.
In an interview with B/R Football, the former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker highlighted Henry’s exceptional performances for both club and country.
“Thierry Henry (was unfairly overlooked). He deserved it like 10 times because I think he was fantastic in the Premier League, but also for the national team and in the Champions League he was exceptional.
“Scoring goals, winning games on his own and for his team. I mean, we’re talking about Thierry Henry – I don’t know if there’s anything more to say,” Drogba stated.
Henry, renowned for his time at Arsenal, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer, also had significant stints with Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona, and the New York Red Bulls.
Internationally, he was instrumental in France’s 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 victories.
Despite his accolades, including multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League win with Barcelona, the Ballon d’Or eluded him.
In 2003, Henry finished second in the Ballon d’Or voting behind Pavel Nedved, and in 2006, he secured third place.
His consistent excellence, however, never culminated in winning the prestigious award.
