Former French international and iconic midfielder Claude Makelele paid an unexpected visit to the training grounds of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) national football team, the Leopards. The surprise appearance occurred on Tuesday as the Leopards gear up for a crucial semi-final match in the ongoing 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

Makelele, who hails from the DRC, joined the players during their training session, injecting a burst of motivation and encouragement.

The seasoned football figure, known for his illustrious career with the French national team, as well as top clubs such as Chelsea and Real Madrid, addressed the squad in a bid to inspire confidence and unity ahead of their upcoming semi-final fixture.

The Leopards, led by captain Chancel Mbemba, had the unique opportunity to benefit from Makelele’s valuable insights and experiences at the pinnacle of the sport.

The motivational speech delivered by the Congolese-born football icon aimed to instill a sense of determination and purpose in the players as they approach a critical juncture in the AFCON tournament.
