Ittihad Alexandria and visitors Zed shared the points in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night in the fifth round of Group 3 in the Egypt Capital Cup at Alexandria Stadium.
The hosts went ahead through Karim El Debb, who unleashed a powerful strike in the 40th minute that crashed into the Zed net and briefly lifted the home crowd.
Zed reacted quickly and were level just five minutes later. Khaled Kabaka found space on the edge of the box and his shot deflected off Ittihad defenders before wrong-footing the goalkeeper and nestling in the goal for the equaliser.
The result leaves Ittihad on 7 points in second place under coach Tamer Mostafa, only separated from Zed, also on 7 points, by goal difference under coach Mohamed Shawky.
Al Masry tops the group with 10 points, followed by Smouha on 5, then Kahraba Ismailia on 4, Zamalek just behind on 4, and Haras El Hodoud bottom with a single point.
The group remains wide open, with the top two and the best third-placed teams advancing to the quarter-finals, and decisive clashes awaiting in the final two rounds.
