Director Lionel Boisseau has crafted a documentary focused on the passionate supporters of the Congolese club TP Mazembe. Immersing himself in their world for 10 days, Boisseau aimed to capture the profound impact these fans have in propelling the Lubumbashi club to victory in every match.
The director expressed his motivation for the project, stating, “I wanted to measure how important football was in this city. I was not disappointed because TP Mazembe (TPM) represents a lot here, as explained by Claude Le Roy, the former coach of the DRC, who speaks of a true religion. There is incredible fervor, and the supporters have a huge role. They consider that the Mazembe phenomenon goes beyond the framework of the DRC. They believe that this club represents French-speaking black Africa.”
The documentary, created in anticipation of the Champions League semi-final against Espérance de Tunis (resulting in a 0-0 draw), is scheduled to be broadcast this Sunday on the Escales channel. It promises to provide insights into the vibrant world of TP Mazembe and the dedicated supporters who contribute to its significance not only in the DRC but also as a symbol for French-speaking black Africa.
