DR Congo striker Cédric Bakambu weighing his future as Real Betis contract nears final year

DR Congo striker Cédric Bakambu weighing his future as Real Betis contract nears final year

Cédric Bakambu faces a pivotal moment in his career as he approaches the final year of his contract with Real Betis. With his current deal set to expire in June 2025, the Congolese international has several paths to consider—either remain in Seville, explore options abroad, or negotiate fresh terms.

Despite not being a guaranteed starter, Bakambu remains an important component of Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking rotation.

The Real Betis manager continues to rely on the experienced forward’s versatility and familiarity with La Liga, where Bakambu previously impressed during his successful stint at Villarreal.

Now 33, Bakambu still has a full season remaining on his contract, and the option to stay in Seville offers a degree of stability at this stage of his career.

He has integrated well within the Betis squad and adapted to the club’s system, adding depth and experience to their forward line.

However, the transfer market could present new opportunities. Although no official offers have been submitted, several clubs are believed to be monitoring his situation closely.

Among them is Greek outfit PAOK Salonika, who expressed a concrete interest in acquiring the forward during the January transfer window.

That move did not materialise, but it could be revived should Betis seek to trim their wage bill or adjust their attacking options ahead of the new season.

In light of these developments, Betis have not ruled out the possibility of a contract extension. According to sources close to the club, informal discussions between Bakambu and club officials have taken place in recent weeks.

While nothing has been agreed upon, both parties are understood to be open to further talks—especially if the striker signals a firm commitment to continue his journey in green and white beyond 2025.

The player, for his part, appears in no rush to make a decision. Currently on holiday, Bakambu is using the off-season to reflect on his next steps, with a resolution expected before Betis begin pre-season training later this summer.

His international commitments with the DR Congo national team have also factored into the timing of any formal discussions.

Bakambu’s future remains uncertain, but his professionalism and measured approach suggest he will weigh all options carefully.

For Betis, his experience and goal-scoring instincts could remain valuable assets, particularly with the club aiming to strengthen its standing in both domestic and European competitions next season.

As the summer transfer window unfolds, clarity on Bakambu’s destination—whether a continuation in Seville or a fresh chapter elsewhere—should emerge.

Until then, the Congolese striker remains a key figure whose next move will be watched with interest by fans and suitors alike.
