DR Congo international Meschack Elia is facing an uncertain future at Nantes as the summer transfer window approaches.
The 27-year attacker joined the French Ligue 1 outfit on loan from Young Boys during the January transfer window and has yet to hit the ground running for the club.
Signed on a short-term deal to boost a misfiring attack, the forward has managed just one goal in seven Ligue 1 appearances.
His deal included a €3 million purchase option at the end of the loan. However, Nantes are hesitant to trigger the buy option following Elia’s unimpressive performance.
Despite occasional flashes of individual brilliance, his overall adaptation to French football has been slow.
There has been divergent views within the technical team, regarding the future of the Congolese star: some believe he deserves more time, others feel it’s time to move on this summer.
Elia remains under contract with Young Boys until December 2026, and a return to the Swiss Super League remains a viable fallback, where he’s still seen as a reliable and consistent performer.
