DR Congo Set to Host Cameroon in Crucial Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier
DR Congo will welcome Cameroon to Lubumbashi next Saturday for a pivotal qualifier in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations campaign. The match will be held at the Kamalondo Stadium, promising an intense encounter between two Central African football rivals.
Joël Kimwaki, captain of TP Mazembe and a key figure for DR Congo, has called on local supporters to rally behind the national team. Speaking to tpmazembe.com, Kimwaki expressed his excitement about playing in front of the passionate home crowd:
“The TPM stadium will not be a new experience for me and it is always a pleasure to meet the supporters in this stadium. I am looking forward to witnessing this moment in the national colours, and I hope that the players who play in Europe will see how the Lubumbashi supporters create a great atmosphere in the stands.”
Kimwaki drew parallels between the upcoming fixture and the electric atmosphere typical of local club matches in Lubumbashi, particularly those involving TP Mazembe:
“I also think that the atmosphere will be a carbon copy of the one that reigns when Mazembe plays. With the support of everyone, those of Lupopo, Mazembe, Lubumbashi Sports, Don Bosco… we will play a great and good match.”
The defender’s comments highlight the importance of home advantage as DR Congo aims to secure qualification to the continent’s premier football tournament.
