DR Congo: Joseph Bakasu joins Wydad Casablanca as fifth summer signing

Wydad Casablanca have secured the services of Joseph Bakasu, marking their fifth addition of the summer transfer window as preparations intensify ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old midfielder joins the Moroccan giants on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with AS Maniema Union.

Bakasu is expected to officially sign his contract within hours, completing his move to one of Africa’s most prestigious football institutions.

Bakasu, known for his energy and control in the centre of the park, becomes the latest player to arrive as part of Wydad’s ambitious squad rebuild.

He follows in the footsteps of Stéphane Aziz Ki, Nordin Amrabat, Hamza El Hanouri, and Dutch defender Bart Meijers—all signed in recent weeks as the Casablanca-based side aims to bolster its ranks.

The club’s strategy appears focused on balancing experience with youthful promise.

In Bakasu, Wydad have added a player with both potential and the competitive edge developed at AS Maniema Union, one of DR Congo’s top-flight clubs.

Though still in the early stages of his professional career, Bakasu has shown enough promise to convince Wydad’s technical staff that he is ready to take the next step in his development.

Wydad, a dominant force in Moroccan and African football, will be expecting immediate contributions from their new recruits as they seek to reclaim domestic supremacy and challenge for honours in continental competitions.

The midfield has been an area of particular focus, and Bakasu’s arrival reflects the club’s desire to add depth and versatility in that department.

This latest acquisition signals Wydad’s intent to reshape their squad with a long-term vision, integrating young talent capable of growing into key figures for the club.

With several more weeks remaining in the transfer window, the Red Castle’s business may be far from over.

Bakasu’s arrival is likely to excite supporters eager to see new faces inject dynamism and hunger into the team, as Wydad Casablanca charts a new course for success in the 2025–26 campaign.
