Congolese international Yoane Wissa has rejoined Brentford’s first-team training, ending a brief standoff with the club following Newcastle United’s failed attempt to sign him.
The 28-year-old forward resumed duties after holding productive discussions with manager Keith Andrews earlier in the week, BBC Sport reports.
Wissa had walked out of Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal on July 21 in protest, following the club’s rejection of a £25 million bid—plus an additional £5 million in performance-related bonuses—from Newcastle.
Brentford turned down the offer, deeming it insufficient for one of their key attacking assets.
While Wissa remains keen on securing a move to St James’ Park before the summer window closes, club officials have reportedly assured the striker that they are open to sanctioning his departure if Newcastle return with an improved proposal.
The player’s willingness to return to training is seen as a temporary resolution rather than a long-term commitment.
Brentford’s position remains unchanged—they are not willing to sell Wissa below their valuation, especially given his growing influence in the squad.
Wissa, who joined Brentford from Lorient in 2021, has been a consistent performer in the Premier League and a key figure for the DR Congo national team.
His versatility across the frontline and direct style of play have made him an attractive option for Newcastle, who continue to explore attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.
While the situation has calmed for now, both clubs are expected to revisit negotiations in the coming weeks.
For Brentford, Wissa’s return helps stabilise pre-season preparations, but the possibility of an exit still looms, with the player hopeful of a resolution that takes him to Tyneside.
