The Congolese Football Federation is hoping to convince AC Milan youngster Warren Bondo to switch allegiance to play for the Leopards at the international level.
Bondo has already featured for the France U21 team but is still eligible to represent DR Congo.
Born in France, Bondo remains eligible to play for the Leopards under FIFA rules. However he recently expressed his ambition to join France’s U21 squad for the upcoming U21 Euro in Slovakia.
“Joining the U21 team would be a great step. Playing for Milan gives me visibility but I need game time. The French U21 team’s definitely on my mind” he said.
Despite France aspirations, the Congo DR football leadership will in the coming days open talks with Bondo in an attempt to convince him switch nationality.
Bondo could reconsider his decision with DR Congo leading their world cup qualifying group.
The two time AFCON winners will host Senegal on September 8 in a crucial qualifier, presenting Bondo with huge chance to launch his senior international career.
The 21-year-old midfielder has made 25 appearances across competitions for the Italian Serie A giants.
