German club Borussia Dortmund are hoping to secure the permanent signing of English youngster of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka this summer.

The midfielder signed for the German Bundesliga side in January 2025 on loan from Chelsea.

The 21-year-old, is part of the Dortmund squad currently in the United States of America for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

He has so far impressed the technical handlers of Dortmund since joining the side. As a result, the club wants to extend his stay.

While in the Round 16 stage at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Borussia Dortmund are reportedly working behind the scenes to retain Carney Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka’s loan will expire at the end of June while the FIFA Club World Cup is still ongoing.

Dortmund have engaged Chelsea to extend the deal to cover the period of the tournament but also want to keep the player for next season.

Sources have reported that Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl is working on a long-term deal with Chelsea and is exploring another year-long long deal as well as a permanent acquisition.
