Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Belgian forward of Ivorian descent, Johan Bakayoko.
The German Bundesliga outfit have identified Bakayoko as the ideal replacement for departing winger Jamie Gittens who is set to sign for English Premier League side Chelsea.
Backed by fresh funds from the Club World Cup and the sales of Youssoufa Moukoko and Gittens, BVB now have the financial muscle to strengthen their squad. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed the club’s intent to be active in the transfer market, stating that Dortmund will “definitely do something.”
According to BILD, Dortmund’s main priority is to bolster their attack rather than their defense, despite concerns raised by their shaky backline during the Club World Cup.
The defensive trio of Niklas Süle, Waldemar Anton, and Ramy Bensebaini struggled, but no reinforcements are currently being planned in that department.
Meanwhile, the future of vice-captain Julian Brandt remains uncertain. While contract extension talks are on the agenda, no agreement has been reached yet.
Checks have revealed that Dortmund also want to sign Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea for another loan spell.
