German club Borussia Dortmund have decided to end the loan stint of France-born defender of Malian descent, Soumaila Coulibaly, with Stade Brestois.
On Thursday, the Bundesliga side officially confirmed that they have prematurely terminated the loan of the central defender.
The 21-year-old joined Brest on loan in August 2024 in search of regular playing time to help with his development. In France, Coulibaly featured in 16 competitive matches for Stade Brestois, where he made eight appearances in the UEFA Champions League, seven in Ligue 1, and one in the French Cup.
His loan stint was cut short due to recurring adductor issues, which have sidelined him since March. Dortmund revealed that Coulibaly is now back in Germany, undergoing rehabilitation training with the club’s medical team.
Coulibaly, a product of the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021. The defender is hoping to fully recover during the off-season to have the chance to compete for a place in the first team for next season.
