The new administrative regulations regarding Mauritanian nationality could pose a problem for the Mauritanian national football team, potentially leading to the loss of their captain, Dominique da Silva. According to reports from Mauritania Football, Da Silva’s documents may no longer be considered valid under the new laws.
Dominique da Silva, who hails from Guinea-Bissau, acquired Mauritanian nationality in 2008 and has since represented the country internationally. However, with the implementation of the new regulations, his documents may no longer meet the criteria for Mauritanian citizenship. The updated requirements stipulate that Mauritanian nationality is now contingent upon proof of ancestral enrollment or, alternatively, the provision of death certificates for deceased ancestors issued by their respective town halls along with evidence from the 1998 census.
This situation presents a challenge for Patrice Neveu, the coach of the Mauritanian national team, as he prepares for upcoming matches, including the preliminary round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers against Mauritius on Saturday.
