Angola’s U17 national team is making final preparations for their opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Under the guidance of head coach Domingo da Silva, the young Palanquinhas have been undergoing intensive training in Casablanca following their arrival on Thursday.
The team has also successfully completed the age eligibility tests mandated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Adapting to new conditions
Speaking about their arrival, Da Silva expressed his satisfaction with the conditions provided for the squad.
“We had a very good reception! We went to a very good pitch, good grass, we trained well, and it also allowed us to adapt to the climate,” he said.
One of the key adjustments for the team has been transitioning from artificial turf, commonly used in Angola, to natural grass pitches.
“This has been a great benefit for the players and also for the coaching staff, since in Angola we only worked on artificial turf and we entered the competition phase to train,” Da Silva explained.
Tactical preparations in full swing
Angola’s coaching staff has been prioritizing offensive strategies as they analyze video footage of their opponents to fine-tune their tactical approach.
“We’re working on the technical and tactical aspects, especially the offensive aspects, since we also observe videos of our opponents and how they play,” Da Silva stated.
Strengthened squad for the tournament
The Angolan squad has been reinforced with several new additions, with approximately 90% of the COSAFA Cup team retained.
Additionally, players from the United States and Portugal have joined the squad, bringing valuable experience and depth.
“Ninety percent of the previous squad came here, and I think the athletes from the United States and Portugal arrived in time to strengthen our team,” Da Silva confirmed.
The new arrivals include a goalkeeper from Portugal, a central defender from the United States, as well as a left winger, a midfielder, and a striker.
With a well-balanced squad and rigorous preparation, Angola enters their first match against Mali with confidence.
The team aims to make a strong impression as they set their sights on securing qualification for the U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
