Djené Dakonam on Trial in Spain After Coton Sport Exit
Togolese defender Djené Dakonam is once again chasing a European breakthrough. The former Coton Sport de Garoua player has been on trial in Spain’s second division, though the identity of the club remains undisclosed. His former coach, Didier Gomes Da Rosa, confirmed that Djené left the Cameroonian side after his contract expired on June 30.
“Djené Ortega left us on Monday. His contract had expired on June 30. He went on trial in the Spanish second division. He was offered a contract that he didn’t want, but that’s his right,” said Da Rosa.
The Togolese international, who rose to prominence during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, has been actively seeking a foothold in European football. After an earlier unsuccessful trial with RC Lens, Djené has found it challenging to land a permanent contract abroad.
Now 22 (at the time), the versatile defender, known for his strength and discipline at the back, is hoping to finally secure a move that can launch his European career.
