Djamel Haïmoudi Retires After Distinguished Refereeing Career
Renowned Algerian referee Djamel Haïmoudi has officially retired from international refereeing, bringing an end to an illustrious career at the top of African and global football. The 43-year-old, who was named CAF’s Best Referee of the Year in both 2012 and 2013, leaves the field after reaching a career pinnacle—officiating the third-place match between the Netherlands and Brazil at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
A Proud Farewell
Reflecting on his career, Haïmoudi expressed satisfaction and pride:
“I am happy to have had such a career. Retiring from international football after a World Cup where I officiated four matches, including the third-place play-off, will remain a very important moment in my career.”
