Algeria’s national football team, led by coach Djamel Belmadi, is gearing up for their opening match against Angola on Monday, January 15, at the Bouaké Stadium. In his inaugural press conference in Bouaké, Belmadi underlined the significance of a composed and strategic start to the competition.
Addressing the media, the Algerian coach emphasized the importance of the first match, recognizing its potential impact on the team’s trajectory throughout the tournament.
Belmadi stressed the need for a confident and positive beginning, as it could set the tone for the entire campaign.
While acknowledging the eagerness surrounding the Algerian squad, especially after their disappointing performance in the previous edition of the competition, Belmadi urged his players to approach the match against Angola with a sense of calm and precision.
“We want to score as quickly as possible, but there is an opponent. Angola concedes few goals; they are a fairly solid team. A match is 90 minutes; we must not rush into haste,” he stated.
As the Fennecs aim for a triumphant return to the African football stage, they are determined to navigate the challenges presented by Angola, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania in their group stage fixtures. Algeria, with victories in 1990 and 2019, eyes a historic third star in the AFCON competition.
The team’s ability to execute Belmadi’s strategic approach will be crucial in determining their success in the tournament.
