Manchester City midfielder Divine Mukasa will not be making a move to Bayer Leverkusen, despite strong interest from the German champions.

The 17-year-old, who signed his first professional contract with City last August, was on Leverkusen’s radar, with the club reportedly considering him as a long-term successor to Florian Wirtz.

Sources close to the player confirmed that Leverkusen had initiated discussions, with the promise of an immediate first-team role.

However, Manchester City opted to reject the approach, preferring to keep hold of the highly rated youngster.

A source close to Mukasa’s family shed light on the situation, stating: “Bayer Leverkusen were serious about a transfer and made contact last week, but Manchester City declined the offers.

We could have listened to offers from the Bayer first team, but we respect Manchester City.

He will stay at Manchester City, there is no doubt about it, we just hope he gets some first-team playing time soon.

Mukasa has been in outstanding form for City’s U18 side, recording ten goals and twelve assists in just eleven league appearances this season.

His performances have also attracted attention from Dutch giants Ajax, who have been monitoring his progress closely.

Earlier this year, Pep Guardiola acknowledged the midfielder’s development, hinting at a potential first-team opportunity before the end of the season.

For now, Mukasa remains part of City’s future plans, with the club determined to oversee his growth within their ranks.
