Diawoye Diarra has officially left FC Rouen to join SC Toulon, marking a return to the south of France for the 30-year-old striker.
Rouen confirmed his departure on Sunday via social media, announcing that both parties had reached a mutual agreement.
FC Rouen 1899 and Diawoye Diarra have decided to part ways by mutual agreement.
The player has expressed his desire to take on a new challenge, and the club has agreed to release him from his commitments,” the statement read.
Diarra’s move comes just six months after joining Rouen, during which he made 12 appearances in the National league and scored five goals.
His performances highlighted his reliability in front of goal, but a desire to relocate closer to his family influenced his decision to seek a transfer.
The Malian forward now joins SC Toulon, a club competing in Group A of National 2.
Toulon confirmed the signing with a statement emphasizing Diarra’s qualities: “This left midfielder (or 9 and a half) will bring all his experience, speed, and vision of the game to the Azur et Or attack.
Diarra himself expressed enthusiasm about the move, explaining the personal motivations behind his decision.
My family having stayed in the South, I really wanted to leave Rouen to return to the region,” he said in Toulon’s press release.
I had been in contact with Sporting for a while and wanted to sign there, but it had never come to fruition.
SC Toulon is a great club, and I am happy to come and participate in the project, even during the season!”
Before joining Rouen, Diarra played a pivotal role at Marignane, helping the club secure promotion to the National with an impressive tally of 15 goals.
His track record of delivering impactful performances suggests he could become a key figure in Toulon’s attacking lineup.
For Toulon, currently pushing to achieve their ambitions in National 2, Diarra’s arrival offers a boost in both experience and firepower.
Meanwhile, Rouen, who currently compete in the National, will look to adjust their plans as they continue their campaign without the prolific striker.
Diarra’s move to Toulon not only reunites him with his family but also provides an opportunity to make his mark in familiar surroundings.
Fans of SC Toulon will undoubtedly look forward to seeing the Malian international bring his talents to the team as they push for success in the second half of the season.
