Desire Doue set for key PSG midfield role against Chelsea
Luis Enrique is considering using Desire Doue in midfield when Paris Saint-Germain face Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday night.
According to L’Equipe, the PSG boss is ready to adjust his shape to match the Premier League side’s physical intensity and relentless wing play.
Enrique is reportedly leaning towards a four-man midfield to add extra bodies in the centre and give better protection out wide against Chelsea’s wide threats. In that setup, Doue would slot into midfield rather than his usual more advanced or wider role, offering both energy and technical quality between the lines.
This would not be an experiment for its own sake. Doue has already been used in midfield by Enrique earlier in the season, and the coach is said to trust his versatility in big matches. Bringing him into that zone for such a crucial European night would be a deliberate tactical move aimed at controlling transitions and limiting Chelsea’s space on the flanks.
With Parc des Princes set for a huge evening, all eyes will be on Enrique’s line-up to see whether he follows through on this plan and hands Doue a pivotal central role.
