Demba Ba Tipped for Surprise Return to Newcastle
Senegalese striker Demba Ba could be on his way back to Newcastle United, just 18 months after leaving St James’ Park for Chelsea. According to reports from the Evening Chronicle, discussions are believed to be underway that could see Ba return to Tyneside in the upcoming transfer window.
The 28-year-old forward, who enjoyed a prolific spell with the Magpies between 2011 and 2013, has found regular playing time hard to come by at Chelsea, and a return to familiar surroundings may now be on the cards.
A potential deal is reportedly being explored in anticipation of Loïc Rémy’s possible departure from Newcastle at the end of the season. The French striker, currently on loan from Queens Park Rangers, has attracted interest from several clubs after a strong campaign with the Magpies, and his exit could create a vacancy up front.
Ba, who scored 29 goals in 58 appearances during his time at Newcastle, remains a fan favourite and could be available for a fee in the region of €7 million. The move would mark a full-circle moment in his Premier League journey, which began at West Ham before taking him to Newcastle, Chelsea, and potentially back again.
Despite scoring some important goals for Chelsea—including a famous Champions League winner against Paris Saint-Germain—Ba has largely featured as a backup under successive managers at Stamford Bridge. With increased competition from the likes of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, and now the anticipated arrival of new attacking reinforcements, Ba’s future in west London appears increasingly uncertain.
Should the transfer materialise, it would not only provide Newcastle with a proven Premier League scorer but also offer Ba a chance to reignite his career in a familiar environment where he previously thrived.
Neither club has officially commented on the reports, but with the summer window approaching and squad reshuffles expected, Ba’s return could become a key storyline for both Newcastle and Chelsea in the coming weeks.
