Defender Marc Guehi leaves England squad due to injury

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has left England camp ahead of their final 2026 World Cup qualifier against Albania.

Despite fitness concerns, Guehi, who has Ivorian roots was included in the Three Lions squad for the double header against Serbia and Albania.

After missing their game against Serbia on Thursday night, Guehi, who is the captain of Crystal Palace has left camp, rejoining the Eagles for further treatment.

According to reports, the 25-year-old centre-back has not fully recovered from the ankle injury he sustained on November 6 in the Conference League match against AZ Alkmaar.

England intends not to risk the defender, granting him permission to return to his club for treatment since their last game against Albania holds no significance.

The highly-rated defender is expected to return to action for Crystal Palace by the end of November.

The Three Lions will travel to face Albania on October 16 in their final World Cup qualifier. However, for Thomas Tuchel’s side, the result won’t matter as they have already secured direct qualification for the World Cup.

This season, Guehi has made 18 appearances, scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists.
