Death of Eugénio Lima football team president Mourned in Cape Verde
The football community in Cape Verde is mourning the loss of Mateus Gomes, widely known as “Fuca,” the president of the Eugénio Lima football team. The team competes in the second division of Santiago Sul. Fuca passed away today in Praia.
According to reports from Inforpress, Fuca died while swimming, a part of his daily morning exercise routine.
In a heartfelt note of condolence, the Santiago Sul Regional Association expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a man who dedicated himself to addressing social issues and significantly impacted the youth in their sports community.
“He brought his contribution to an area with many social problems and did much for the young people of our sports region,” the association noted.
On social media, friends from various walks of life, including football and politics—Fuca was also a member of the PAICV—shared their grief and paid tribute to a man who was a constant supporter and positive influence in their lives.
