Dayot Upamecano gave Bayern Munich fans a glimmer of hope this week as he laced up for his first running session since a knee injury sidelined him.
Back in late March, the 26-year-old center-back learned he had to be out for a while after doctors discovered loose joint bodies in his left knee. Now, he’s finally hitting the training pitch again.
On Wednesday morning, Bayern confirmed that Upamecano completed laps around the training ground, marking a key milestone in his recovery. The Frenchman’s return can’t come soon enough for a team desperate to shore up its defense. Still, no one’s pinning down an exact comeback date just yet.
Reports vary wildly Bild claims he’ll be out at least three months, while Munich’s evening paper suggests Bayern’s dreaming of having him back for a potential Champions League final on May 31.
That dream might be a stretch, though. Bayern’s shaky 1-2 home loss to Inter Milan in the quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night left their European hopes hanging by a thread.
