Dayot Upamecano backs Michael Olise to become Bayern legend

Dayot Upamecano has spoken warmly about his Bayern Munich teammate Michael Olise, tipping the young winger for greatness if he continues on his current path.

Bayern’s long-standing French connection, from Bixente Lizarazu and Willy Sagnol to Franck Ribery and Kingsley Coman, now includes Upamecano and Olise, and that bond is clearly strong in the dressing room.

“He can decide a match at any moment,” Upamecano said in an interview with Canal Plus. “I see him every day in training. It’s difficult, even for him (laughs), but honestly, he’s an incredible player.”

For the defender, what really stands out is Olise’s mentality as much as his talent. “I see how hungry he is, how hard he works, and if he stays the same Michael, he will become a legend,” Upamecano added, underlining the high regard in which his friend is held inside the club.

With that mix of quality, humility and work rate, Olise is being tipped to follow in the footsteps of Bayern’s iconic French stars in the years ahead.
