Davide Ancelotti urges Lille to change course after Galatasaray defeat

Davide Ancelotti says Lille must improve quickly after their 4-2 defeat by Galatasaray in the third round of the UEFA Champions League.

The French club remain without a point from the competition, while Galatasaray moved on to three points following an entertaining match.

“We were unable to deal with certain periods of the match properly, and that cost us the defeat,” Lille head coach Ancelotti told reporters.

Lille had been seeking their first point of the campaign but were beaten by Galatasaray, leaving them with no points after three rounds.

“We failed to get our first point,” Ancelotti said. “We have to work on these issues and change the situation as quickly as possible.”

The Italian also warned that Lille must start collecting points if they are to keep their hopes alive. However, he said their focus should be on remaining competitive throughout each match rather than becoming preoccupied solely with the final result.

“We have to start collecting points if we want to keep our chances,” he said. “Our thoughts should not be focused on the results, but on our ability to compete until the end in every match.

“We did not manage to do that, so we have to change something.”

Ancelotti added that Lille could not afford to lose their discipline or belief during difficult moments, particularly in a competition where mistakes are punished.

“We must remain competitive until the end, never give up and improve the way we deal with the moments in matches,” he said. “This competition is unforgiving. Here, nobody forgives you for your mistakes.”

The result left Galatasaray with three points, while Lille remain bottom of their group without a point.

Davide Ancelotti is the son of experienced manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is currently head coach of the Brazil national team.

He was given the opportunity to work as head coach of Brazilian club Botafogo before moving to France to take charge of Lille.
