David Odogu linked with Mainz loan move from AC Milan
David Odogu could leave AC Milan on loan this summer, with Bundesliga club Mainz 05 reportedly interested in bringing the young centre-back back to Germany.
Milan are searching for a temporary destination after the defender struggled to establish himself following his move from Wolfsburg.
The Rossoneri are believed to prefer a loan without a purchase option, meaning they want to retain full control of Odogu’s long-term future. That arrangement could become a sticking point for Mainz, who would need to decide whether developing the defender for another club fits their sporting plans.
Odogu’s situation has attracted attention beyond Germany. Belgian side Anderlecht and several other European clubs have also reportedly expressed interest in the athletic right-footed defender.
Milan invested approximately €10 million to sign Odogu from Wolfsburg last year after he impressed with Germany’s under-17 team. He helped the nation win both the FIFA Under-17 World Cup and European Championship, raising expectations around his future.
However, the teenager has not yet made the immediate breakthrough many anticipated in Italy. A return to the Bundesliga could provide regular senior football, valuable experience and the ideal environment to continue his development before competing for a place at Milan.
