Darwin Nunez could earn more than Mohamed Salah in proposed Trabzonspor move

Darwin Nunez is close to joining Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor for next season, with the Uruguay striker set to earn a higher salary than his former Liverpool team-mate if the proposed loan move goes ahead.

Al Hilal have agreed to let Nunez join the Turkish club during the current summer transfer window on a season-long loan, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Youm, citing Turkish publication Sozcu.

Nunez is expected to retain his full Al Hilal salary in Turkey. His annual wages are reported to be €22m, which would put him €5m above Salah’s current salary of €17m.

Trabzonspor will pay only €8m of Nunez’s wages, with Al Hilal covering the remaining €14m under the proposed arrangement.

The reported agreement comes as Al Hilal seek to move on from Nunez after an underwhelming start to his time at the club. He failed to produce strong performances during the first half of last season and was subsequently left out of the club’s domestic squad for the second half of the campaign.

A move to Trabzonspor would see Nunez play alongside Salah for a second time. The pair spent three seasons together at Liverpool between 2022 and 2025, before Nunez moved to Al Hilal.

Salah was Liverpool’s leading attacking figure during that period and played the central role in the club’s second Premier League title triumph. It was Liverpool’s first league championship in five years.

The Egypt international joined Trabzonspor during the current summer transfer window on a two-year contract, following the end of his nine-year spell at Liverpool.

Salah arrived at Anfield in 2017 and established himself as one of the club’s most important players. His departure brought an end to a significant chapter in Liverpool’s recent history, while Nunez’s potential arrival in Turkey could bring the two forwards together again.

For Trabzonspor, the proposed loan would add a striker with experience of playing at the highest level in both England and Saudi Arabia. Nunez previously represented Liverpool from 2022 until 2025, while his move to Al Hilal followed the end of his time in the Premier League.

The reported salary structure would also make Nunez the better-paid of the two players at the Turkish club, despite Salah’s status as the more established figure during their time together at Liverpool.

No further details of the proposed agreement were given in the report, but the move is expected to be completed during the current summer transfer window if the final arrangements are concluded.
