Manchester United’s rising star Patrick Dorgu has decided to embrace his full name, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, on his shirt following a heartfelt request from his family.
The change, reflecting his Nigerian roots and faith, will soon appear across the club’s website, team sheets, and the United Review programme’s squad list.
Chinazaekpere, meaning “God answers prayers” in Igbo, honors the heritage of his parents, both born in Nigeria. Dorgu grew up in A Danish neighborhood called Husum.
The 20-year-old defender, fresh off a three-match suspension, is set to return for United’s Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest next Tuesday.
Dorgu has already made waves this season, playing a key role in United’s 4-1 Europa League rout of Real Sociedad. Just yesterday, he set up Christian Eriksen’s goal against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.
After joining United from Lecce on February 2, 2025, for £25 million, Dorgu inked a five-year deal with an option for an extra year. He debuted five days later in a 2-1 FA Cup victory over Leicester City, quickly proving his worth.
