Daniel Kanu switches to Notts County for season-long Charlton loan

Sierra Leonean-English forward Daniel Kanu has joined Notts County from Charlton on loan, giving the League One club a new centre-forward option for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 21-year-old completed the move on 31 August 2026, with his spell at Notts County scheduled to run until 31 May 2027. Kanu will move from Championship side Charlton to a Notts County team competing in League One.

Kanu began the season with Charlton but had not made an appearance before completing his transfer. He was also listed in Charlton’s squad for the EFL Cup, although he did not feature in the competition before moving to Notts County.

The centre-forward spent the previous campaign on loan at Walsall, returning to Charlton at the end of May after making the move to the League One club in August 2025. His latest switch represents another temporary move away from Charlton as he continues his senior career away from The Valley.

Born in Lambeth on 14 November 2004, Kanu is eligible to represent both Sierra Leone and England. He stands 1.81m tall and favours his right foot.

Kanu joined Charlton’s senior setup from the club’s under-21 side in July 2023, having previously been part of their under-18 ranks. He then spent part of the 2023-24 season on loan at Southend United before returning to Charlton in December 2023.

His transfer history also includes the loan spell at Walsall during the 2025-26 season, followed by his return to Charlton before the latest move. Kanu’s market value is listed at €600,000, while the loan fee has not been specified.

Notts County’s opening 2026-27 fixtures included three possible Championship matches and two EFL Cup ties in the club’s recorded schedule, but Kanu had not appeared in either competition before joining. The move places him with a club competing in League One for the remainder of the campaign.

Charlton retain Kanu, with the forward’s recorded agreement running until 31 May 2027. He has now completed a loan transfer to Notts County for the 2026-27 season.
