The Tunisian Professional League has suspended CS Sfaxien goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen for two matches and fined him 5,000 Tunisian dinars for misconduct during a recent league fixture.
The decision was announced on Friday, following Dahmen’s inappropriate gesture during a match against Stade Tunisien in the domestic top flight.
The Tunisian international’s actions were deemed unsporting and in violation of league conduct rules, prompting disciplinary action from the league’s governing body.
Dahmen’s suspension marks the second instance in recent weeks of similar sanctions being imposed, after Algerian forward Youcef Belaïli of Espérance Sportive de Tunis was penalised for comparable behaviour.
As a result of the suspension, Dahmen will miss CS Sfaxien’s league clash against Etoile Metlaoui and their Round of 16 Tunisian Cup tie against US Ben Guerdane.
However, he will return in time for his side’s crucial league encounter against Espérance in Round 28, a fixture that could prove pivotal in the final stretch of the season.
The absence of Dahmen, who is considered one of the most experienced players in Sfaxien’s squad, will be a notable setback as the club seeks to end the season strongly.
With just four matches left to play in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1, CS Sfaxien are currently in seventh place with 37 points, trailing the top spots by a considerable 19 points.
