CS Sfaxien confirm Ali Maaloul ankle injury; veteran set to spend two weeks on the sidelines
CS Sfaxien have confirmed that captain Ali Maaloul has sustained a left ankle injury that will sideline him for approximately two weeks.
The veteran Tunisian left back rejoined his boyhood club last summer after a successful spell with Al Ahly SC, where he established himself as a cornerstone of the Cairo giants.
Since returning to Sfax, Maaloul has quickly reassumed a leadership role, featuring in 16 matches this season, scoring once and providing four assists to underline his continued influence on both ends of the pitch.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the club disclosed that medical examinations confirmed the ankle problem and recommended a two week rest period before the 36 year old can resume full training and competitive action.
The setback means Maaloul will be unavailable for the upcoming Tunisian league fixture against Future Gabès, a match in which his absence will be felt defensively and offensively given his experience and attacking contribution from the flank.
Club officials indicated that the injury occurred during a training session and has been classified as minor. Barring any complications, Maaloul is expected to return to action once the prescribed recovery period is completed.
