CS Constantine’s journey to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals has hit a financial snag after the club was penalized for fan behavior during their tense quarter-final showdown.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board ruled that the Algerian side, often called the “Sanafir,” breached competition rules by allowing the use of pyrotechnics in their April 1 match against rivals USM Alger. As a result, CS Constantine must pay a fine of USD 15,000. On top of that, a previously suspended USD 10,000 fine from December 2024 has now been activated, increasing the total penalty to USD 25,000.
Despite the setback, CS Constantine has turned heads with a brave run in the 2024–25 competition. Their win over USM Alger not only secured them a spot in the last four but also showcased their ability to handle pressure and take down bigger clubs.
Next, they face Moroccan side RS Berkane in a two-legged semi-final. The first leg is set for late April, with the second in early May, as the Sanafir aim to keep their dream run alive.
