Crystal Palace have signalled a willingness to listen to offers for centre-back Marc Guehi in January, with Manchester City reportedly stepping up their interest amid a growing defensive injury crisis.
City’s backline has been severely hit, with John Stones, Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias all facing spells on the sidelines. Gvardiol, in particular, is expected to miss the remainder of the season, leaving Pep Guardiola short of options at the heart of defence.
Although the champions have recalled Max Alleyne from his loan spell at Watford, the squad still appears thin in central areas.
Against that backdrop, attention has once again turned to Guehi, a player City were already monitoring during the summer transfer window. The current situation has reportedly accelerated their plans, with the England international now emerging as a leading January target.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner has attempted to temper speculation, insisting the club are keen to retain the defender. However, he has also acknowledged the financial realities surrounding Guehi’s situation, especially with limited time left on his contract.
Speaking after Palace’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, Glasner made it clear that any potential deal would require a substantial offer.
“I think Marc will stay but if Marc says ‘I want to leave’, and a club pays massive money – with five months left of a contract – every player will leave if you’re playing for a club like Crystal Palace,” Glasner told Sky Sports.
