Former England international Jamie Carragher believes Franco-Congolese attacker Jean-Philippe Mateta has outgrown Crystal Palace level.
Mateta has been outstanding for Crystal Palace, racking 30 goals in the last two seasons for the club. This season, the 27-year-old has scored 17 goals and provided 3 assists from 40 appearances across competitions.
The forward is already a target for several clubs heading into the summer transfer window.
And Jamie Carragher insists Mateta has surpassed Crystal Palace level and could depart the club this summer.
“I think other clubs will be looking at him. I don’t like to say this because Crystal Palace fans will understandably be upset. But in the last two seasons, he’s been more than just a player, scoring real goals.
Can he step up to the next level, to teams vying for the Champions League? Crystal Palace is a level below, a typical mid-table team. I think he’s brilliant,” Carragher said in the Sky Sports studio.
The 27-year-old joined the Eagles in 2022 and has since established himself as a key member of the team. His current contract with the club expires in the summer of 2026.
