Crown Prince Moulay Hassan officially inaugurated the newly rebuilt Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, marking a milestone in Morocco’s sporting infrastructure.

The stadium, part of the expansive Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex, boasts a seating capacity of 68,500, making it the country’s second-largest.

Reconstruction began in 2023 and was completed in under two years, a project spearheaded by Moroccan firm Orange Atelier in collaboration with international design firm Populous.

The rapid construction set a Guinness World Record for the fastest stadium build of its size.

The inauguration ceremony brought together the workforce responsible for the stadium’s transformation. The facility officially opens to the public on Friday, when Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, face Niger in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

The team will hold their final training session today at 19:00 ahead of the 20:00 kickoff. Tickets for the match sold out in record time, underscoring the anticipation surrounding the stadium’s reopening.

The stadium is part of a larger sports complex that includes an Olympic swimming pool, football training pitches, and an indoor multisport arena. It is also slated to host key fixtures during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

State-of-the-Art Design and Facilities

The new Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium blends modern architecture with Moroccan cultural motifs, featuring a façade inspired by palm leaves. Its 68,700-seat capacity places it among the largest stadiums in the country.

Technological innovations include high-definition LED screens, advanced acoustic systems, smart crowd management tools, and a FIFA-standard pitch with cutting-edge drainage and grass systems.

Sustainability has been prioritized, with solar energy integration and water recycling technologies incorporated throughout the facility. The complex also offers a multi-level underground parking facility accommodating 5,200 vehicles.

The stadium’s completion marks a significant step in Morocco’s preparation to host major international sporting events and reinforces the country’s position as a hub for world-class football.
