In yesterday’s French Football Cup match, Erwin Zelazny, the young FC Nantes goalkeeper, had a memorable debut, but unfortunately for the wrong reasons. Making his first start of the season, he conceded a goal against Nice in the 8th minute of the game. The goal came from an unexpected source, as he was lobbed by a seemingly innocuous cross from Didier Digard.
Digard shared his perspective on the goal, stating, “I wanted to make a deep pass for Jérémy Pied, and the goalkeeper was hampered by the rebound.” He acknowledged that the ball gained significant speed, and unfortunately for Zelazny, it occurred in his first match of the season. Despite the mishap, Digard expressed empathy, saying, “I am not going to rejoice in his misfortune. I hope he gets another chance to prove his worth.”
Erwin Zelazny, aged 22, recently extended his contract until 2015. Despite having been with the team for three years, he has only started in eight games. This match marked a challenging moment for the young goalkeeper, reminiscent of a significant blunder he made in November 2011 in the Coupe de France against Bouscat, a club in the Bordeaux region.
