Guingamp to Face Rennes in Coupe de France Final After Dominant Win Over Monaco
Guingamp has secured their place in the Coupe de France final, set to face Rennes in what promises to be an exciting rematch of the 2009 final, which they won 2-1. The Brittany side, playing with determination and grit, overcame Monaco 3-1 after extra time in a match that was as intense as it was thrilling.
Under the guidance of coach Jocelyn Gourvennec, Guingamp proved to be the more cohesive and combative side, with Mustapha Yatabaré playing a starring role by scoring twice. His performance was a key factor in their dominant victory, outshining a Monaco team that will now finish the season without a trophy.
Yatabaré reflected on the match, acknowledging the tough battle and the collective strength of his team. “It was tough, we played a great match. Monaco has individual technical strength, we have collective strength. It was pretty much the perfect match, we can be proud of ourselves. We had a lot of chances, penalties should have been awarded, but we’re through, that’s the main thing,” he said after the match.
The Malian striker also praised the home crowd, which provided immense support throughout the game. “The crowd was magnificent, we’re waiting for them at the Stade de France and we’ll need them to stay up. When the crowd is like that, we’re hard to beat,” he added.
Looking ahead to the final, Yatabaré expressed excitement about facing Rennes, noting that both teams know each other well. “A final against Rennes is magnificent, what everyone wanted. It’s going to be an exciting match, a great derby. Rennes knows us very well, we know them too.”
Guingamp’s victory has set up a thrilling Coupe de France final at the Stade de France, where they will look to add another trophy to their collection against their Ligue 1 rivals Rennes.
