Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has returned to full training, boosting the club’s hopes ahead of their Europa League showdown with Athletic Bilbao.
The Ivorian was spotted back on the pitch at Carrington on Wednesday, marking his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury in February.
Diallo’s recovery is seen as a timely lift for a United side enduring a disappointing campaign under new manager Ruben Amorim.
The club currently sits precariously above the relegation zone and has already exited both domestic cup competitions.
Their hopes of salvaging the season now rest squarely on success in the Europa League, which offers a backdoor route to Champions League qualification.
The 22-year-old’s absence was felt across recent matches, especially as United struggled for creativity and consistency in attack.
His return is expected to add a spark to Amorim’s front line, though he is unlikely to feature in Thursday’s clash and may instead be eased back into action during the weekend’s Premier League trip to Brentford.
Diallo was joined in training by centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, who has also been sidelined, missing several games since picking up an injury in the defeat to Nottingham Forest.
His return comes at a critical time with defender Diogo Dalot ruled out for the rest of the season.
While both Diallo and De Ligt offer renewed options for Amorim, the coaching staff are expected to take a cautious approach with their reintegration into the squad.
United face a resurgent Brentford side on Sunday, also chasing a European place, in what promises to be a vital fixture in determining the final weeks of United’s turbulent campaign.
