Toufic El Sayed, the renowned referee expert, has conclusively settled the debate surrounding Mohamed Abdel-Moneim’s goal for the Egyptian national team against Ghana.
This comes in the ongoing match, part of the second round of group stage clashes in the current Africa Cup of Nations tournament hosted in Cote d’Ivoire.
In exclusive statements to BBC Sport, El Sayed stated, “The goal scored by Mohamed Abdel-Moneim against Ghana is invalid due to an offside by Ahmed Hegazi, the Egyptian defender.
Therefore, the decision to disallow the goal is accurate.”
The scoreboard currently reflects a 2-2 draw, with Omar Marmoush netting the first goal for the Egyptian team, and Mustafa Mohamed securing the second.
In a related context, Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, commented on the Pharaohs’ draw against Ghana with two goals each in the second-round match of Group B in the Africa Cup of Nations.
He affirmed his satisfaction with the players’ response in the second half.
Speaking on beIN Sports after the match, Vitoria disclosed, “The players communicated with each other during halftime; their relationship is good.
They emphasized the need to come back between the halves, and they showed an excellent performance after the break.”
Vitoria continued, “The players’ performance was not affected after the second goal.
They displayed fantastic character, unaffected by what happened, and returned to the game. Now, the focus should shift to the upcoming match against Cape Verde.”
Addressing the preparation for the Cape Verde match, Vitoria stated, “No match is easy, and we’ve seen how they won against Ghana.
We will prepare well for the match.”
Closing his remarks about the Ghana game, Vitoria said, “The match was demanding for the players, and today they get some rest.
Then, we start preparing from today to achieve our first victory in the Africa Cup of Nations.”
With Egypt securing a draw against Ghana, the team faces a crucial upcoming match against Cape Verde as they navigate the complexities of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage.
