CS Constantine returned to winning ways with a gritty 1-0 victory over ES Setif on Thursday, silencing fans at the Stade du 8 Mai in a rescheduled Ligue 1 clash.
This long-awaited win marks Constantine’s first in the Algerian top flight since their 2-0 success over CR Belouzidad back in January. The result lifted them to 29 points, now sitting in tenth place.
Setif, meanwhile, missed the opportunity to strengthen their hold on fourth. They remain at 38 points, falling further behind CR Belouzidad, who are six points clear in third.
The deadlock was broken in the 52nd minute when Zakaria Bencha’a curled in a stunning free kick. The strike slipped past goalkeeper Tarek Bousseder, whose misread proved costly.
Setif struggled to respond and failed to convert chances, while Constantine defended with determination to protect their narrow lead.
Next, CS Constantine will host US Biskra on May 18th, aiming to build on this momentum. ES Setif faces a tougher test as they visit league leaders MC Alger a day later, hoping to bounce back.
