Congolese striker Cédric Bakambu insists he is “happy” at Real Betis despite reduced game time
Cédric Bakambu has moved to dismiss rumours of a rift with Real Betis, insisting he remains content at the Andalusian club despite a slow start to the new season.
Speculation in recent weeks suggested the Congolese international had grown unsettled after Betis declined to sanction his departure during the summer transfer window. Reports claimed the forward was frustrated at his lack of opportunities and had fallen out with the club hierarchy.
However, in a recent interview with the club’s media team, Bakambu rejected suggestions of discontent. The 33-year-old striker said he remains committed to the team and is determined to contribute positively whenever called upon.
“I am happy here, truly happy,” Bakambu said. “They even call me the Prince of Montequinto. Last year was a very good season for the club, and personally, I felt I performed well too. My focus is to continue in the same direction this season.”
The former Villarreal and Marseille forward acknowledged there was an option in his contract that could have allowed him to move on, but stressed he has accepted Betis’ decision to retain him.
“There was a clause where the club could have let me go, but they chose to keep me. I respect that, and I am at the disposal of the team,” he added. “If the club wants me to stay, I will give everything. If one day they decide differently, I will still leave on good terms. There will be no problems from my side.”
Bakambu played a key role for Betis last season, impressing with his movement, energy, and finishing ability. His contributions helped the team compete strongly both in La Liga and on the European stage. But the current campaign has been more challenging, with the striker struggling to secure consistent minutes in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting line-up.
The Congolese forward acknowledged his own frustrations but vowed to keep working hard to rediscover his best form.
“I want to score more goals for Betis,” he admitted. “I feel good physically, but I know there is always room for improvement. My focus is on training, staying sharp, and being ready when my chance comes.”
For Betis supporters, Bakambu’s public statement brings clarity after weeks of speculation regarding his future. His assurance of loyalty and willingness to accept the club’s decisions should ease concerns about dressing-room harmony at a time when Betis are looking to build momentum in the league.
Bakambu’s words also reflect the experience of a player who has built a career across multiple leagues. From France to Spain, China, Turkey and Greece, the striker has faced both triumphs and challenges. His return to La Liga last year was seen as a statement of intent, and he will now be hoping to replicate his past prolific spells in Spanish football.
As the season progresses, much will depend on how often Pellegrini deploys him and whether he can regain his rhythm in front of goal. For now, however, Bakambu’s message is clear: he is content at Betis, committed to the team’s ambitions, and ready to play his part whenever the opportunity arises.
