Vital Nsimba has sealed an emotional return to Clermont Foot, signing a contract that will keep him at the French second-division club until June 2026.

The Congolese international joins as a free agent following his departure from Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa.

For Nsimba, who previously spent four years at Clermont between 2018 and 2022, the move represents a homecoming in every sense.

During his first spell, he was a key figure in the team’s promotion to Ligue 1 in 2021 — a period fondly remembered by supporters and the player alike.

Coming back to Clermont is a bit like coming home. I’ve had some unforgettable moments here and I’m very happy to be back with the club, the fans and the project. I’m very motivated to help the team, and I hope to do so from Friday, the 32-year-old told the club’s official website.

Nsimba arrives with a wealth of experience and a determination to make an immediate impact.

Known for his energy on the flank, tactical discipline, and strong work ethic, the left-back will provide much-needed stability to Clermont’s defence as they aim to push for promotion.

The player’s recent stint in Israel saw him make 16 appearances for Maccabi Haifa, contributing one goal and two assists.

Although his stay in the Middle East was relatively short, it added another layer to a well-rounded career that has taken him across several competitive European leagues.

Born in Angola but representing the Democratic Republic of Congo internationally, Nsimba came through the youth ranks at Bordeaux before building his career in France with clubs such as Bourg-en-Bresse and Beerschot in Belgium.

It was at Clermont, however, where he truly came of age as a consistent and reliable performer.

His return also brings a boost to Clermont’s dressing room, where he is remembered as a respected voice and natural leader.

The club’s supporters, who watched him play an integral role during their rise to Ligue 1, have already expressed enthusiasm about his comeback on social media.

Now entering what could be the final major chapter of his career, Nsimba remains as ambitious as ever.

His blend of experience, familiarity with the club, and motivation to contribute immediately could make him an invaluable asset in Clermont’s pursuit of success this season.
