Joel Bopesu opened his goal account for Pyunik Yerevan as the Armenian club cruised to a commanding 6-1 victory over Shirak in their latest league fixture.
The Congolese defender, who joined the side from Lithuanian outfit Vilnius Zalgiris, netted in stoppage time to round off an emphatic performance on matchday 23.
Bopesu Opens His Account
Having started the game on the bench, Bopesu was introduced in the second half and made an impact by scoring his debut goal for the club.
The 28-year-old left-back, who spent four seasons in Lithuania before making the move to Armenia, ensured Pyunik ended the match on a high with his late contribution.
The result marks an important recovery for Pyunik after their 3-0 defeat to Urartu in the previous round.
The victory strengthens their push for European qualification, keeping them in contention at the top end of the table.
Pyunik’s Position in the Title Race
With 43 points, Pyunik currently sits third in the Armenian Premier League standings, maintaining their hopes of securing a place in next season’s European competitions.
The team will need to find consistency in the closing stages of the campaign to either cement their position or push for the league title.
Their next league fixture is against Alashkert on Saturday, April 5, but before that, they face a crucial Armenian Cup quarter-final clash against Lemayin Artsakh on Tuesday, April 1.
The upcoming matches will be vital in determining the club’s aspirations for both domestic and continental success.
