Association Sportive de Cheminot secured a narrow victory against Tongo FC with a score of 1-0 during the 9th day of the Congo national football championship. With this result, Cheminot climbed onto the podium with 17 points.
The Togolese player, Gaty Patrick Kouami, and his teammates find themselves behind Konzo de Brazza, who leads with 21 points, and AC Léopards de Dolisie, the CAF Cup champions and qualifiers for the group stage of the Champions League. AC Léopards de Dolisie has 18 points with a game in hand.
Cheminot’s leaders have aspirations to disrupt the hierarchy and aim for a spot in an African competition for the next season. However, the competition is tough, and there is a long road ahead for the team.
Gaty Kouami, aged 21, had previously played in the final of the African Under-17 Cup of Nations in 2007. After his time with Gomido de Kpalimé in Togo’s 1st division, he moved to Egypt in 2011, where he experienced the challenges of socio-political movements. His first season in Congo aligns with the ambitious goals set by Cheminot’s management to play a prominent role in the current season
