It’s great to see representation from the African continent among the referees for the upcoming Confederations Cup in Brazil. The three officials from Africa are Djamel Haimoudi and Abdelhak Etchiali from Algeria, with Redouane Achik representing Morocco. Djamel Haimoudi will serve as the center referee, while Abdelhak Etchiali and Redouane Achik will officiate as assistants.
The Confederations Cup, considered a dress rehearsal for the World Cup, will take place in Brazil from June 15 to 30. The tournament will feature eight teams, including the African representative, Nigeria, as well as Spain, Italy, Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and Tahiti.
Having African referees involved in such prestigious international competitions is a positive sign of the continent’s contribution to global football officiating. The event serves as an opportunity for teams to prepare and showcase their talents on the international stage ahead of the World Cup.
