Como became only the second team this century to score nine goals in a single UEFA Champions League match after thrashing Lens 9-1 in the fourth round of the 2026-27 league phase.
The Italian side produced a remarkable attacking display away from home on Wednesday, with Anastasios Douvikas scoring a hat-trick as Cesc Fabregas’ team recorded a landmark victory.
Nico Paz, Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Papa Cheikh also found the net for Como. Ricardo Aguilar scored Lens’ only goal.
The result means Como have matched a feat previously achieved by Bayern Munich in the 21st century. The German club scored nine times against Dinamo Zagreb in September 2024, winning 9-2.
Bayern’s victory came on 17 September 2024 and featured four goals from Harry Kane, including three penalties. Michael Olise scored twice, while Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka each added one goal.
According to statistics from Opta, Bayern Munich were the first side to score nine goals in one match in Champions League history. Como’s emphatic success over Lens now places them alongside the Bundesliga club in that record.
The Italian club’s nine-goal haul also matches a landmark from the European Cup era, before the competition was renamed the Champions League. Real Madrid defeated Austrian side Wacker Innsbruck 9-1 in 1990 to record the most recent equivalent result in the tournament’s earlier history.
