Como head coach Cesc Fabregas says former England international Dele Alli still has an opportunity to feature before the end of the Serie A season.
Alli, who is of Nigerian descent through his father, has endured a challenging start to life in Italy.
After joining Como earlier this year, he made a highly anticipated debut against AC Milan.
However, his appearance was short-lived, as he was shown a red card minutes after coming on. Since then, the midfielder has been sidelined with injury and has not returned to match action.
Speaking ahead of their weekend fixture against Parma, Fabregas acknowledged that while Alli’s impact has been limited, he has not been overlooked.
“I play those who train well and earn a spot during the week,” Fabregas said. “Dele Alli needs to keep working. He had his chance in Milan, but was sent off and then got injured. When the right time comes, it just comes.”
Como, who secured their Serie A status for the 2024/25 campaign last weekend, are currently 11th on the league table with two matches remaining.
Fabregas has overseen a steady campaign in the club’s return to the top flight, and his focus remains on rewarding players based on merit and commitment in training.
