Colonel Guy Akpovy has been re-elected for a third consecutive four-year term as the head of the Togolese Football Federation (FTF). The decision was announced during the ordinary elective congress of the FTF held in Lomé on Saturday, February 3.
Colonel Akpovy, heading the “New Elan” list, stood as the sole candidate for the presidency, resulting in his re-election by acclamation.
The FTF president has outlined a comprehensive program for the next four years, focusing on key areas such as professionalization, improved governance, grassroots football development, football medicine, player health, and infrastructure enhancement.
Addressing the challenges faced, particularly the recent non-qualification of the Togolese national team for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Colonel Akpovy and his team have committed to persistent efforts aimed at restoring joy to the Togolese public.
The re-elected president emphasized his dedication to the growth of Togolese football and affirmed his commitment to implementing strategic measures outlined in his program.
During the congress, delegates also deliberated on crucial matters, including the approval of the budget for the 2024 financial year.
The balanced budget reflects a total of 3,638,000,000 CFA francs, indicating a notable 13.6% increase compared to the 2023 budget.
Additionally, significant amendments were made to the FTF statutes, notably the establishment of a professional football league.
This newly created league will assume the responsibility of organizing and managing both the national first and second division championships, as well as overseeing other major competitions.
The congress, representing a pivotal moment for Togolese football, showcased a collective vision for the future under Colonel Guy Akpovy’s leadership.
As the FTF charts its course for the next four years, the focus remains on elevating the standards of Togolese football across various dimensions, and fostering a sense of pride and enthusiasm among football enthusiasts in the country.
